The digital media player application known as iTunes was released by Apple Inc. on January 9th, 2001. Since then, the proprietary software has been made for a variety of platforms and devices, allowing it to become one of the most widely used media players in the world. It travels with us, it lives with us, it plays us songs through the full spectrum of human emotions.

For six months in 2010, iTunes played Billboard’s Top 100 tracks from the year of its birth, on random, in an office in Vancouver, Canada 24hours a day seven days a week to discover what songs the software liked most.

The stop button on iTunes was pressed at 12:33pm on January 10th 2011. After almost 28000 plays of the top 100 songs from 2001, iTunes has decided on the following:

Favorite Song: Travis Tritt – It’s A Great Day To Be Alive
Least Favorite Song: Eve 6 – Here’s To The Night

Favorite album: 112 – Part III
Least favorite album: Nine Days – Songs From Dawson’s Creek – Vol. II

Favorite artist: Destiny’s Child
Least favorite artist: Eve 6

iTunes’ 10 favorite songs will be compiled into a downloadable play list titled: iTunes – Favorite Songs from The Year of My Birth.
