Kafka In The Tub

A performative and time based work in which David Look reads Franz Kafka’s, The Trial, in the bath and only in the bath. These idle moments of contemplation with the novel allowed David to construct his own narrative through a series of excerpts that have been presented here as Kafka In The Tub, 2008.

The book itself is a 1988 Picador translation of Der Prozess, which David Look found on his living room floor after his lover moved out of his apartment for a new life in Berlin.

Many personal notations are inscribed on the pages of the novel, the author of which cannot be accurately determined. David’s Picador translation of The Trial continues to inspire performative, time based, and media based projects. It is also available for purchase or exhibition as a tangible remnant of these works.
